With Easter being here before we know it, I have already started to plan out my Easter menu. This is going to be a big job for me this year, we are looking at having around 20+ people at our house for lunch that day!!! So one of my must haves for any holiday meal is stuffing. I like to make my own stuffing so I can control how strong the spices and flavors are. As every cook knows, you can’t have stuffing without the bread.
Like many recipes, day old or stale bread work best when making stuffing. With my love of baking I am always wanting to try out new recipes which means we usually are overflowing in the bread department. To keep from throwing away money, and not to mention yummy bread, I started freezing my bread to use in recipes later on down the road. You can do this with all different types of bread. What I like to do is go ahead a cut the bread into cubes and place in a small bowl.
I place all of the same type of bread in the bowl together I have all the bread cut into cubes. I then just take each bowl and dump it into a freezer storage bag making sure to get all the air out of the bag and mark the bag with the type of bread and the date I placed it in the freezer.
The bread should keep in the freezer for approximately 3 months. Just take it out of the freezer a few hours before using and you have instant bread cubes for all your recipes plus it cuts down on your prep work 🙂 You can also cut your bread into thick slices, freeze and use later in french toast.
