Today I am going to let you in on a little secret. I love to find antique and vintage looking items to use and display in my kitchen! I prefer to have my kitchen clean of clutter so if I can find an item that is beautiful to display and something that I will use frequently than I am a happy girl. Some of my favorite pieces that I use every day are items that my grandfather used in his own kitchen. I still use his tin canister set, potato bin and even some of his cast iron and wood cutting boards. When building our new house a couple of years ago I wanted to design an elegant kitchen while still paying homage to the natural beauty found in vintage and antique pieces.
I searched numerous antique stores and on-line for functional pieces to compliment my vision. While cruising the internet one evening I stumbled upon a site called “Old Word Kitchen by Polder’s Old World Market”. They had some of the most exquisite wooden utensils I have ever seen in a wide variety of woods and stains, so of course I had to order a few pieces just to see if they were as great in person as they appeared to be on the website. Once I received my order and opened the box I was completely blown away.
It was like Christmas morning, not only were the utensils just as beautiful as pictured, the way the items are packaged for shipping is like opening a present! The detail and love that is put into each piece is beautiful. What is really amazing though is that all of these pieces are done by hand using Swiss-made gouges and chisels.
Some of my favorite everyday utensil are now handmade by Polder’s Old World Market. I love their wooden spreaders. They look stunning when I use them for dips at parties but we also use them every day for buttering breads and making sandwiches. Their wooden spoons are equally appealing to use for serving and great for cooking.
I look forward to purchasing more items and enjoying them for years to come. With proper care they should last a lifetime and something I hope to pass on to my granddaughter one day.
I hope you all take the time to go and visit their website and see for yourself just how beautiful cooking can be! Be sure to follow them for inside peek at new products, giveaways and exclusive offers.
As always, have a wonderful day and happy cooking!
